Springdale, AR Planning Commission Approves Waste and Recycling Center for Industrial Area

The building of a recycling transfer facility on North Old Missouri Road was authorised 8-0 by the Springdale Planning Commission. At this location, Cards Recycling trucks will unload household and construction garbage. According to Dan Christenson, president of Cards, the garbage will be sorted, with the majority of the material being collected for recycling. He stated that recyclables will be held until they are sold, and that other garbage will be sent to various landfills within 24 hours. According to Christenson, the firm serves thousands of clients in south Benton, north Washington, and west Madison counties. Fayetteville is the company’s headquarters.

Imperial Foods and Coffee’s James Pickney came out against the idea. Imperial’s catering kitchen is directly across the street from the acreage to the south. Another food service firm, Newly Weds Foods, is located to the south. Pickney expressed issues about odour, bugs, and dust from gravel areas close to the food processing business. The garbage will be kept within the facility, which will be closed at night, according to Chris Bakunas of McClelland Consulting Engineers. According to him, the floors would be cleaned once a week. He also mentioned that the firm will screen the area with fencing and other planting. Bakunas stated, “We are willing to go above and beyond the code.”

Pickney had an initial communication with Christenson following the meeting. “They appear to be willing to collaborate with us,” Pickney added. “However, we won’t know what it is until it arrives.” The Cards facility will be located along one of the main roads entering the city, according to Kevin Parsley, chairman of the Planning Commission. The city has classified the area for industrial use, and other businesses in the vicinity have pledged to keep their structures in good repair, according to Parsley. “The city has made it a business-friendly neighbourhood,” he explained. “There’s a big possibility there for us. Your hopes are sky-high.”
