Cumberland County is ranked first in Tennessee for recycling in 2021, according to the Tennessee Recycling Coalition.

The Tennessee Recycling Coalition has named the Cumberland County Solid Waste Department the Government Recycler of the Year. Individuals, organisations, schools, and companies in Tennessee that have proven a dedication to waste avoidance and recycling are honoured via this programme.

For more than 20 years, Cumberland County has maintained a recycling programme, removing more than 3,000 tonnes of waste from landfills each year. Each year, the county collaborates with Knoxville e-cyclers to recycle more over 25 tonnes of electronic trash.

The solid waste department utilises used motor oil for heating at the recycling facility, adhering to the slogan of “reduce, reuse, recycle.” Residents are taught how to recycle items such as wire fencing, clothes, fluorescent light bulbs, latex paint, wood pallets, TVs, and glass by the county. In addition, the county works with an industrial cylinder recycling firm to collect and properly recycle propane cylinders.
