CPP Proposed Ambitious Action Plan to Address Plastic Waste

Leading business organizations and governments joined hands to release an ambitious action plan to address plastic waste by building a circular economy for plastics packaging in Canada. The Canada Plastic Pact (CPP) Roadmap to 2025 aims to unite key players so as to deliver noticeable changes by 2025.

The Roadmap proposes actions to be undertaken to achieve a circular economy for plastic packaging. It suggests elimination of unnecessary and hard-to-recycle plastics and promotion of reuse and refill models. Secondly, it recommends optimization of the recycling system through material investments in new infrastructure. Finally, it proposes to use real-time data and monitoring mechanisms to deliver overall improvement of the system.

CPP’s Roadmap will play a key role in uniting stakeholders for progress towards a circular economy for plastics packaging. It targets to ensure co-operation of existing and new partners. Furthermore, it invited others across the value chain to join the efforts in creating essential steps to tackle the issue. The action plan focuses on generating economic value and creating new valuable jobs.

The CPP highlighted that over 85% of plastics produced in Canada are used once, after which they end up either in landfills or in the environment.
